Occasional notes on the work and what we are learning. No more than once a month, and you can leave any time.

That didn’t go through. Please email newbiz@stonecastlepictures.com and we’ll pick it up from there.

Got it!

Thanks for reaching out. One of us will respond to your email within 24 hours.

What we collect when you visit or write to us, who helps us handle it, and how to ask us to stop.

The short version

We hold what you choose to send us, and a little about how this site is used, to keep it working. If you write to us or join the newsletter, we keep your email address and what you told us so we can answer you. We count visits with Google Analytics, so we know which films people watch. We don’t sell anything you send us, we don’t rent it, and we don’t run advertising on this site.

What you send us

There are two forms on this site.

  • Contact. Your email address, your company name if you give it, your message, and a tick-box if you’d like the newsletter too. We also note which page you wrote from, and which reel, if we sent you one.
  • Newsletter. Your email address, where on the site you signed up, and how long the page had been open when you did. That last one is only a check against automated sign-ups.

That’s all either form asks for. If you email us directly, we keep the email.

Who helps us handle it

A few services do the work behind the forms. Each sees only what it needs.

  • Netlify hosts this site and keeps a copy of every form you send.
  • Resend sends our emails: the note that tells us you’ve written, and our reply to you.
  • Mailchimp holds the newsletter list. When you sign up, Mailchimp emails you a link to confirm, and you’re only on the list once you’ve clicked it. Before that, we check that the address looks real and that its domain can receive email.

Each has its own privacy policy: Netlify, Resend and Mailchimp.

What we do with it

  • Answer you, and talk with you about a film if you’re thinking of making one.
  • Send the newsletter, if you asked for it. Every issue has a way to unsubscribe.
  • Keep a record of who we’ve talked to, so we don’t ask you the same questions twice.

We keep it for as long as we’re in touch, or for as long as we need it to keep a working relationship, and then we delete it. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe.

Private reels

Sometimes we put together a private page of films for one person and send them the link. When that page is opened, we get an email saying so, with the time, a short description of the browser and device, the internet (IP) address it came from, and how many times that browser has opened it. It tells us our link arrived, and whether it has been passed on. Your browser keeps the count of visits. Nothing else on this site does this.

Counting visits

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages and films they look at, roughly where in the world they are, and what kind of device they use. It doesn’t tell us who you are. Google Analytics sets its own cookies in your browser to recognise a returning visitor, and they can last up to two years.

We’ve turned off Google’s advertising features, so this information isn’t used to show you ads. Google Analytics doesn’t run on the private reel pages described above. To opt out on every site that uses it, Google offers a browser add-on, and its explanation of how it uses this information.

What your browser keeps

Apart from Google Analytics, this site sets no cookies and runs no advertising. Your browser keeps a few small notes for us. Some last only while the tab is open, such as whether you’ve already seen the opening animation. Two stay longer:

  • Whether you’ve closed or answered the newsletter invitation, so we don’t ask again: for 30 days after you close it, or for good once you’ve signed up.
  • On a private reel, the count of visits mentioned above.

Neither holds your name or email address. Clearing your browser’s data for this site removes them.

Like any website, our host keeps routine server records, such as your IP address and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.

Films and other people’s services

Our films play from Vimeo. We ask Vimeo not to track viewers, but it is Vimeo’s player, and once a film loads, Vimeo’s own privacy policy applies to it. Links from this site to other sites, such as Instagram, LinkedIn and our booking calendar, work the same way.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@stonecastlepictures.com and a person will answer. To leave the newsletter, use the link at the bottom of any issue, or write to the same address.

This site isn’t aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect anything from them.

If this changes

When we change how we handle your information, we’ll change this page and the date at the top.
